31 Days of Horror Day 1: Blair Witch 2016 - REVIEW

So Lionsgate hid the news about a new Blair Witch movie all up till the San Diego Comic Con where they revealed their movie entitle The Woods was actually the 3rd Blair Witch movie.  This one is a direct sequel to the first.  I am a huge fan of the first film and could not wait to see this one on opening weekend.  Tons of mixed reviews came in the first couple days, which doesn't really bother me at all.  Think this time i should have listened!

Taking place roughly 18 yrs after what happened in the woods in Burketsville, MD.  The brother of Heather (Heather Donahue), the main character from the first movie, is going to take an expedition into the same woods his sister never returned from hoping to find some answers.  James (James Allen McCune) enlists the help of a local couple hoping they can guide him and his friends through the woods safely.  Right from the beginning when they enter the woods they are not safe and things start to happen.  These kids have no idea what is in store for them.

I really underestimated the motion sickness from the first film when i saw it in the movie theaters.  Holy Shit!  I thought I was going to vomit just about the whole time so that right off the bat was not enjoyable.  As for the movie itself I fucking hated it.  I couldn't wait to see it but was not counting on such a week plot, a not very believable story or the bad acting.  The characters were not likable and the story itself, a brother going to hopefully find his sister alive after so long is just stupid.  I will admit the 3rd act was the most excitement in the movie but it didn't make up for its flaws.  There are a few tense moments that caught me a little off guard and some jump scares as well.

Blair Witch is a dud!  They should have left it alone after the 2nd movie, which i thought was a pretty enjoyable film.  I will give Blair Witch 2 stars out of 10.  Probably one of my lowest I have rated but it was the most disappointing of the movies I have watched in recent years.  Stay twisted eveyone!
