BIBLE BELT SLASHER: THE HOLY TERROR Coming To DVD

This Christmas Brain Damage Films presents The Bible Belt Slasher: The Holy Terror, a love letter to the 1980's and its low budget slashers from the mind of Bradley Creanzo. The movie is already available On Demand through most major cable, satellite, and internet VOD providers, with a bonus-packed DVD arriving December 30th. DVD extras include the 30-minute "Bible Belt Slasher Part 1" short film, original music videos, bloopers/deleted scenes, TV spots, interviews and more.

About the Film
The Bible Belt Slasher is the brain child of writer/director/producer/star/cinematographer/composer/editor/80's fanatic Bradly Creanzo. Some may remember him from the 2013 documentary Adjust Your Tracking, in which he shows off the replica retro video store he built that lives in his basement (which also appears in Bible Belt).

The Holy Terror is actually the second film in the series -- the first is a half hour short included on the DVD -- described by Creanzo as having "Something for everyone whether it be violence, blood & gore, 80's music, suspense, black comedy or that walk down slasher memory lane."

Both films premiered together to a sold out theater in New Jersey, followed by a very limited DVD, VHS and Betamax (yes, you read that right) release. Brain Damage Films has no plans for a wider Betamax release but we're excited to bring this uniquely entertaining piece of cinema to the masses just in time for the holidays!

Synopsis
It's December 1989, and Wilkins, Tennessee native Jason Fry returns to wreak more havoc on the survivors, friends and families of the teenagers whom he killed in the first film. Fry is committed back to the Hillside Sanitarium for his brutal crimes, but he doesn't stay there long. Fry kills his doctor and escapes going on a bloodbath crusade of revenge against those he believes to be sinners in his eyes. Only Dr. Landers knows what Fry is and he will do anything in his power to stop him, but will he save everyone from the holy terror that Fry brings this Christmas season?

Creeping Crawling Coming to DVD and VOD October 7

On October 7th, Brain Damage Films will release Creeping Crawling, an entomophobia-inducing horror anthology featuring three tales sure to make viewers bug out. DVD availability is set to include many retailers and websites including Amazon, as well as rental chains including Family Video. VOD availability will include all major and minor cable/satellite operators and internet platforms.

About the Film
Creeping Crawling is the work of writer/director Jon Russell Cring's CINEMA REBELLION along with writers Joshua Owens and Tracy Nichole Cring. The film features three creepy crawly tales starring exotic insects, arachnids, parasites, and reptiles -- Oh, and scream queen RAINE BROWN (Torture Chamber, Deer Crossing), America's Next Top Model contestant LAURA LAFRATE, Anna Shields (Little Bi Peep), and more, as well as music by Super 400, Bear Campo, and Absolute Zero.

The film took home a Best Feature award at the 2013 JamFest Indie Film Festival and the RID segment took Best Screenplay at the 2012 Atlanta Horror Film Festival -- But if you don't trust awards it has reviews to back it up, like (re)Search My Trash's Mike Haberfelner, who says the movie "gives new, amusing but also fittingly macabre twists and turns to stories that might sound familiar. And add to that a very competent ensemble cast, a directorial effort that knows when to hold back, when less is more, and a light-footed note to the whole thing, and you've got a pretty entertaining piece of genre entertainment."

Synopsis
You live with them, you feed them, you fear them. Creeping Crawling is an anthology featuring three tales of terror centered around things that go slither in the night. Doug and Allison have a paper due and they're hoping an eccentric entomologist will be the lynch pin to a passing grade.

They get more than they bargained for when Dr. Tarkovsky tells them the story of GRUBBERY and the lengths supermodel Denver will go to in order to keep her figure. Denver's best friend Ginger introduces her to age old dieting wisdom as her boyfriend Rick witnesses her eaten away by her own vanity.

RID introduces Dori, a beautiful young girl who desperately needs money and poses as a nurse hired to take care of a comatose patient. While staying in the Gothic mansion, she begins to unravel as something feasts upon her while she sleeps.
Dr. Tarkovsky's final cautionary tale centers around Bailey. In BUGGER, the lonely man navigates love online. He can't seem to find a woman who shares his six legged obsessions. A co-worker has her doubts about his motives, as a serial killer is at large.

Demon 2013 - REVIEW by Chris Young

During my teen years I spent many summers taking part in youth group activities at my church. It was free, kept me busy, and on the whole was a beneficial experience. So when I was around 22 years of age and came back from a disappointing couple of years at a college I only went to because I didn't know where else to go, I decided to use my video camera shooting and editing abilities to help entertain the next generation of teens. I had known most of these young people when they were younger and attempted to become a bit of a fun older mentor through our goofy movies. It was a good couple of years and I learned quite a lot about guerrilla filmmaking. This was information that would help me the rest of my life, and like waiting tables or running a cash register, it taught me how hard it is to make good work look easy.

When I began reviewing movies I had hoped I could stick with what were, in my humble opinion, just the good ones. Filmmaking is difficult and in some cases rather thankless work, and few things are as onerous as hauling ass on a production only to get lambasted in some armchair auteur’s weekly column. So hard to build and so easy to tear down.

But it was not to be. Recently I became aware of the fact that Tammy at Twisted Central was getting a little overwhelmed with her Twisted Tails Film Festival duties and could use a hand chipping away at some of her screeners. I offered my help, she accepted, I picked one at random and promptly found myself watching one of the worst films I’ve ever had the misfortune of losing 90 minutes of my remaining life to. So much for my high standards.

My lucky jackpot selection turned out to be “Demon”, a sloppy unfinished straight-to-DVD video that isn’t bad enough to call shlock and not good enough to play on the SYFY Channel. Most of the plot centers around a disgraced FBI agent, played quite competently by Jasmine Waltz, who is sent to investigate the unexplainable slaughter of two border agents. Along the way she is insulted and disrespected by the misogynistic local Sheriff and his halfwit deputies, followed around by a top secret government scientist who can’t wait to divulge what she’s been working on to anyone who will listen, and a Tribal Ranger for whom she builds a relationship with, presumable because he’s the only other character in the story who isn’t either stupid, abusive or out to undermine her authority.

The scientist eventually discloses that she and her aide have created the perfect killing machine, which they have released into the wild to observe its effectiveness before deploying it to the Middle East for desert warfare. As the bodies continue to pile up our heroine tries to catch the creature while navigating through a government conspiracy and dealing with PTSD she still has over losing her brother when they were kids.

THERE, I just saved two hours of your life that you can spend watching Subject Two or Session 9.

I knew I was in trouble when I thought for sure I’d been watching this movie for over an hour only to find out I’d barely hit the thirty minute mark. By then I had been subjected to various kinds of bad audio, like drop outs, poor recording and a blaring ambient noise track that frequently covered up the on location dialogue. In one scene where people are driving, the nature soundtrack is overwhelming, while there is a complete absence of motor sounds or even tire interaction with the ground. In another, where two children on the street run up to talk to the protagonist, you can tell the sound editor is using on location voice recording, except it somehow has a strange echo to it very similar to what you would hear inside a large room. I’m still trying to figure out how they accomplished that.

The editing swings between unintelligible and nonexistent, with shots staying on one character or another for far too long, even while others are talking, and seemingly random decisions about when to include reverse or insert shots. For example during a scene with a coroner we are given an unnecessary close up of rubber gloves being tossed into a trash can but get nothing when the scientists flash their identification. Long stretches of wilderness scenes have a strange purple cast with the gain turned up high as if they are both trying to attempt a poor-man’s bleach pass and imply some kind of “predator-vision” even though the shots are not from the POV of the creature.

Look, people. I have easily another two dozen notes of things that are just plain unacceptable in any kind of self-respecting film. I think the moment that finally gave me some inkling as to what I was watching was the scene where several characters are sitting around a campfire, each giving their line, one at a time as the camera turns on a tripod from one to the next without an edit. You see, when I made one of my little action videos with the teen group, we did the exact same thing. Why? Because we had no money, no crew to speak of, no script and very little time. That’s all cute for a group of teenagers, even endearing in the right circumstance.

But for a feature film, even a direct-to-DVD movie, not so much.

Jasmine Waltz deserves better than this. She has some serious acting chops. If she has an agent, fire him. If not, she needs to be more picky.

Maxim Media International Acquires Slaughter Daughter

Maxim Media International, a worldwide distributor of independent horror films has acquired Slaughter Daughter for worldwide distribution. Plans are underway to release the film on DVD and Video On Demand with the North America imprint Brain Damage Films. Official artwork and release dates are coming soon!

About The Film:
Slaughter Daughter is the brainchild of Director Travis Campbell and Writer/Producer Lauren Miller. Campbell and Miller also partnered up on their previous feature, Mr. Bricks: A Heavy Metal Murder Musical. After Mr. Bricks was completed, they begin brainstorming a new idea about a matricidal young woman named Farrah. They immediately thought of Nicola Fiore, one of the stars of Mr. Bricks, to play the lead. Italian Giallo films of the 1970s, soap operas, and true crime novels all became the inspirations behind Slaughter Daughter.

In January of 2011, the team began to build an online presence for the film and shot the first of what would become a weekly web series lasting 8 episodes. The series focused in on Farrah’s stint in a mental hospital and aired on YouTube. From there, the team pulled up their socks and climbed the uphill battle of making independent film. Fueled by inspiration and determination, they completed the project and gave birth to something truly inspired.

“Slaughter Daughter” is an inspirational film to me.” says director Travis Campbell. “I know this sounds strange since it is a horror movie, yet making the film was an opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone. I was excited to get inside the female psyche. Independent film is a hard business, and some say it is dead. There is no money and at the end of the night, you know you have to go back to the daily grind the next morning. My hope is my movie will stand out and rescue you from this monotony. With Slaughter Daughter I believe this is entirely possible.”

The webisode playlist is available here.

Full Synopsis:
After being left at the altar 5 years ago, ex-beauty queen Farrah Adjani has receded into her own world. Finally they discover to their own shock, who their true tormentor is, as well as how and why these terrible things are happening. Is it too late to keep the rest of them from dying? Is the fate that awaits them even worse than death or hell? Does a mystical book they find hold the key to controlling the dark forces that threaten to unleash ghosts and demons of an evil past? And finally, can they trust each other, or even themselves to contain the fears that threaten to destroy them? Suspense and mystery keep you unsettled and guessing till the very end, when the fate and outcome of all is finally revealed.
