I remember the director saying when Halloween Kills came out that they intended to take the movie in a new direction. I also remember me thinking to myself: How can they really do that? The final showdown between Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney). It starts off just a bit slow but does gain momentum pretty quickly. Once it does, I found myself getting more and more into this movie because I couldn't predict how it was going to end. Jamie Lee Curtis gives a great performance as well as the newcomer to the franchise in 2018, Andi Matichak as Laurie Strodes Granddaughter.

You may agree with my review or you may not and that's OK but I really enjoyed watching this. I thought the best part was the ending. The ending gave me a sense of closure to the series and I really hope they don't make anymore. As great as Michael Myers films are, it's old and tired. Much like Michael appears to be. I enjoyed this trilogy as a whole but lets be done now. The story is lacking, not developed well and takes too long to get to any action in the movie. This may have been ok if it was building suspense but it really wasn't. The only star I can give this is that the deaths were done pretty well. I guess they tried to make up for the fact that the movie itself was awful. It doesn't of course but at least it gives people one lone positive thing to say.

The Birds II was just released about a month ago on Blu-Ray by Vinegar Syndrome. Here’s the problem… you can have the best cast on the planet but even they can’t save a poorly written film. At times the dialogue seems trite and forced which in turn, comes off as very wooden. The only saving grace is William Sadler as a heartbroken husband and father. Unfortunately, he only appears for a few minutes and it’s most definitely not long enough to pull Devour out of it’s tailspin.

When I first read the description, my mind immediately went to Stay Alive but where Stay Alive thrives, Devour falls far short. The entire premise of the movie hangs on the illusion of ‘The Pathway’ but the game is never explained. You can infer why they introduced Jake to it but how did they come across it and why did they decide to participate? Beyond that, the film also suffers from very little character development which leads the audience to not really care who lives or dies. Speaking of deaths, most of them are implied, rather than shown so you’re cheated out of the elation of watching these unlikable characters meet their demise.

All in all, Devour is slow, predictable and disappointing in every way. Somewhere in there, the whole premise, The Pathway, falls to the wayside and a whole different plot line takes over. Take the first, middle and end and make three different short films and they MIGHT be watchable. As it is, this pathway leads to nothing more than mediocrity.

Gore Whorehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05793044856903015152noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5836287004144087773.post-23043158910623877102022-09-30T16:08:00.008-05:002022-09-30T16:48:46.846-05:00Black Phone (2021)- REVIEW

Well, well, well. After another hiatus, just a few years, we are back to tackle some movie reviews that we think you guys would want to know about. It's not that we lost our passion for horror or writing, life just happens sometimes and you find yourself with less and less time to do the things you really want to focus on. Adulting is fucking bullshit! I know I can speak for myself and Tammy when I say we missed you guys and we are going to try and deliver the experience and news that we used to back in the day. All that being said, lets take a look at Black Phone.

Set in 1978, in Denver, Co there is a child abductor on the loose. The film itself drags on and on with very little action to speak of. The only real points of suspense left me smacking my forehead and rubbing my temples wondering why I ever turned it on to begin with. Not only was it a waste of talent, but a complete and total waste of 96 minutes of time. In fact, I think I’d rather take the spam call about my cars extended warranty than ever even think of this movie again. Groundhog Day (1993) is quite the masterpiece for it's time and continues to hold up well today. It's such a fun movie that countless other films have tried to mimic it's greatness but none have ever come close to measuring up, in my opinion anyway. TV shows like Charmed, Supernatural and even The X-Files have had episodes that involved some sort of time loop. So why not a horror movie?
After a night of partying, self centered college student, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) wakes up in the dorm room of Carter Davis (Israel Broussard). Confused and embarrassed, she quickly dresses and goes about her day as usual. Later that night, as she's headed to a party, she's murdered by an unknown assailant. Next thing she knows, she's waking up in Carter's room again and the day starts over again. She, of course, writes off all the familiar happenings as deja vu, at least until she's headed back to the party. Creeped out, she decides to go a different way and ends up being killed again. When she finally figures out what's going on, she realizes in order to stop the cycle, she has to find out who wants her dead and why.
Honestly, I didn't have high hopes for this movie. Admittedly, I haven't been watching a ton of movies lately but main stream horror hasn't been really given me the urge to do so either. However, Happy Death Day was refreshingly clever. It gets moving pretty quickly and doesn't let up much at all. It's like a riding a roller coater for the first time. Given the amount of times Tree is killed, the death scenes were quite creative. It's like director Christopher Landon and writer Scott Lobdell sat down in a room together and asked, "Ok, how many different ways can we kill someone?", then just went for it and nailed it. I appreciate that they didn't go over board with elaborate kills and shove blood and gore down the audience's throat. Sometimes simple is better and it's nice to see a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. They knew going in what they were going for and made it look easy.
Speaking of making things look easy, Rothe definitely steals the show with her performance. She brings a lot of life to an otherwise unlikable character and does an incredible job conveying growth over the course of the movie. It takes a special writer and actor to make an audience root for such an obnoxious character. In fact, I found that every actor involved did a pretty outstanding job. Rothe and Broussard mesh well together and I can see each of them doing more great things in the future.
While the film is far from perfect, it is tremendously fun. It has a great mix of horror, comedy and, dare I say, even a little romance. It's a rare thing to see a slasher movie take all those elements and successfully bring them together. If you're a fan of the slasher genre, do yourself a favor and watch it. And, I hear they're working on a second part as well so here's to hoping it's as good as this one.
For a long time I didn't think this movie was ever going to be released. Countless times it was pushed back from the theatrical release till they finally pulled it for good and just released it straight to dvd. Nevertheless I still was pretty enthused to see a new entry to an Amityville franchise that isn't that all impressive. I actually enjoy the first 4 but then they get a little too cheesy and just bad after that.

I have to say I really liked Awakening. I know that is not a popular opinion but I thought the cast was great and really just not a bad movie. I am not giving this a raving review but if you are familiar with the franchise it certainly is better than most of them.

Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is a desperate Mother that will try anything to cure her son (Cameron Monaghan) who has been in a coma for a couple years. She believes the Amityville house's powers will bring him out of his condition and all will be good again. Joan fails to tell the rest of her family about the house's history and the real reason they moved there. This is something that her teenage daughter Belle (Bella Thorne) has to find out for herself.

I was a little hesitant to watch this after all the delays and people saying how bad it was but i already loved who was in it. The acting to me did not disappoint. Jennifer Jason Leigh may not be as young as she once was but she still has a presence about her and young stars Cameron Monaghan from Shameless and Bella Thorne are excellent as well. I would give this film 6 out of 10 stars. Definately recommend giving this one a chance. There are a few scenes that were so creepy they made me uncomfortable. Stay twisted everyone
Aaaaaand, we're back! I would like to give you some fluff and bullshit about why I haven't reviewed anything lately. I'd like to use the excuse that I've been to busy but that's not true. The truth is, for a while, independent films just beat me down. Most that we were getting were lackadaisical and uninspired and quite frankly, weren't even worth wasting the time to review them. I pride myself on being brutally honest when it comes to reviewing and it started feeling more like I was just beating a dead horse. However, I am also stubborn as hell and refuse to let the website that I put so much effort into for so many years simply dry up and die. So.... onward and upward!!

Fifteen years after a gruesome triple homicide devastated their Little League baseball team, four friends (Erin Hammond, Marshall Caswell, Mathew Dunlop, Nick Sommer) reunite to commemorate their dead coach and fallen teammates. A mystery unfolds as the secrets from their past return to haunt them and a vengeful killer, hidden by an antique umpire's mask, returns to even the score.

I have to admit, I didn't have high hopes for this one. For some reason, the artwork and title of the film didn't give me a great feeling. Yes, I'm a judgmental bitch, BUT, I am completely ecstatic to say that I was wrong.

The film is well shot and the acting, for the most part, is on point and much better than you normally see in lower budget indie films. However, the film is not without it's flaws. There are some flashbacks that drag on a little long but are needed to round out the story. As always, I appreciate the use of practical effects and the majority of them were well done, there was a face smash effect that blew me away, but there were also some that fell a little short (final scene). However, none of those things take away from the overall watchability of the film. Written and directed by Nick Sommer and Drew Rosas, Billy Club is an old fashioned slasher with a little bit of comedy mixed in to make it an enjoyable ride.

They choose instead to self distribute. And this choice says nothing of the quality of the films themselves as there are some amazing horror movies released in this manner. But, while it leaves the film makers with full control of their movie, it also severely limits what they can do with it. One area it limits is their VOD options. A self distributed film's only real options before now have been creator-operated Youtube or Vimeo channels.

This is where IBleedIndie.com comes in. Features on our site rent for 72 hour periods for $3, shorts for $1. I have always felt that if a movie can stay in your thoughts after the viewing it has succeeded. Horror movies in particular I think are successful this way. I have movies on my must watch list for those who haven't seen them that I hesitate to re-watch myself because of this reason. They affected me, stayed in my head and possibly disturbed me somewhat. I appreciate the ones that elicit this reaction if it is integral to the plot. Yes gore and violence for gore and violence's sake are fun too for us horror fans but something that is beyond eye candy is needed now and then to feed the soul.
2015's Stray directed by Nena Eskridge is not my definition of a horror movie. It is however an extremely honest and sincere effort that will elicit feelings from the viewer. This, as I said previously, falls under my definition of successful as a film. It is an extremely slow burning plot that builds and builds to an even more extremely sad ending. I hesitate to call this movie depressing because that suggests its of poor quality. Depressing maybe the most accurate description though. While not an overly shocking ending or horror movie gory payoff at the end, it creeps up and "gets you in the feels" for lack of a better description.

Stray centres on Jennifer, played by Gabrielle Stone. She's homeless and we see her do what she must to survive and get what she wants. Jennifer is a complex character who reveals more and more of herself emotionally as the story goes on. Gabrielle does an excellent job as she shows us every side to herself, changing how you feel about her every step of the way. Once her basic needs are fulfilled she attempts to fill other voids in her life. Such as a relationship

She stumbles upon Greg, played by Dan McGlaughlin, and once her sights on set on him, nothing gets in her way. Greg's girlfriend Sarah (Samantha Fairfield Walsh) see's what Jennifer is attempting but becomes powerless to stop her. Greg's mother Edna (Arita Trahan) sees something else in Jennifer, and relates to her somewhat. This all leads to the characters getting caught in Jennifer's wave of destruction whether intended or not. I hesitate to say much more at risk of spoiling your own feelings and opinions of Jennifer. She ranges from "Fatal Attraction" to relatable and the key to the plot is the discovery along the way. Her story is what leads me to my depressing description when I could relate to Jennifer's hopelessness in the end.

The film itself is of great quality. It does not feel like an indie picture at all. I did find the slow burning plot almost painful at times but like any good picture everything is justified by the end. Every actor does an excellent job with their role. Nena Eskridge does a great job of directing and gets some great camera angles and shots. I wouldn't call this a must watch movie and quite frankly if you are feeling sad or depressed I would encourage you not to watch it because it is so successful at taking you on Jennifer's journey. I think this was a very well done movie and is worth a watch. Don't expect true horror but please keep an open mind and be wary of who you help along the way.
Synopsis
Stephen King was once quoted as saying: "I have seen the future of horror... his name is Clive Barker." That future became reality when, in 1987, Barker unleashed his directorial debut Hellraiser - launching a hit franchise and creating an instant horror icon in the formidable figure of Pinhead.

Barker's original Hellraiser, based on his novella The Hellbound Heart, follows Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) as she comes head-to-head with the Cenobites - demonic beings from another realm who are intent on reclaiming the soul of her deviant Uncle Frank.

Picking up immediately after the events of the original Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II finds Kirsty detained at a psychiatric institute and under the care of Phillip Channard, a doctor who abuses his position to realise his own dark aims. In Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, a reporter investigating a mysterious death at a nightclub finds herself in the way of Pinhead and the Cenobites, who plan to bring their horrifying world into our own.

Coming at a time when the genre was degenerating into self-parody, Hellraiser offered a fiercely unique vision that approached its horrors with a far greater degree of seriousness than many of its contemporaries. Along with its sequels, the Barker-produced Hellbound and Hell on Earth, Arrow Video is proud to present some of the most terrifyingly original films in the history of horror in brand new 2K transfers.
WHEN THE CURTAIN GOES UP THE TERROR BEGINS

Horror titans George A. Romero and Stephen King deliver yet another fiendish selection of blood-curdling tales in Creepshow 2 - now newly remastered in 2K!

In "Old Chief Wood'nhead", a group of young hoodlums face retribution from an unlikely source after looting a local hardware store. Meanwhile, "The Raft" sees a group of horny teens wishing they'd read the warning signs first before taking a dip in a remote lake. Finally, an uptight businesswoman finds herself with some unwanted company following a hit-and-run incident in "The Hitch-hiker".

Whilst retaining the EC comic book flavour that made the original such a hit, Creepshow 2, this time directed by long-time Romero collaborator Michael Gornick, is a decidedly darker and grimmer affair than its predecessor and remains one of the greatest horror anthologies of all time.

In career that has encompassed such controversial classics as Ms. 45, Bad Lieutenant and Welcome to New York, none of Abel Ferrara's films have quite managed to match the shock, extremity and downright notorious nature of The Driller Killer.

Ferrara plays struggling artist Reno, a man pushed to the edge by the economic realities of New York living in the late seventies and the No Wave band practising in the apartment below. His grip on reality soon begins to slip and he takes to stalking the streets with his power tool in search of prey...

Forget Taxi Driver, The Warriors and The New York Ripper, The Driller Killer is the definitive look at NYC's underbelly - a slasher that is as much at home in the arthouse as it is the grindhouse.

Musician and Dangerous Minds-writer CHRIS BICKEL and DAVID AXE, founder and editor of War Is Boring, are first-time filmmakers who have shot the perfect throwback exploitation trailer as part of a funding campaign for their upcoming feature film, THE THETA GIRL.

The five minute trailer for the film TEENAGE CALIGULA is a throwback to Jack Hill-style gritty exploitation flicks with classic '70s style voiceover narration. The trailer, produced for $150 and filmed over two weeks served as an exercise to gear the cast and crew up for their feature production, THE THETA GIRL, which will be shot in December.

The trailer

THE THETA GIRL is a feature-length psychedelic thriller that pays homage to 1960s art films, 1970s revenge flicks and '80s slasher films. Shot entirely in Columbia, South Carolina with regional talent, THE THETA GIRL is a bloody, sexy, atmospheric labor of love.

THE THETA GIRL concerns a take-no-shit young woman, Gayce, who deals a hallucinogenic drug called "theta," facilitating an audience for her friends' all-girl rock band. When Gayce's friends are brutally murdered, she must solve the mystery behind the murders and protect herself from the killer. She discovers the connections between theta and the murders ... and learns a terrifying truth. That the world -- indeed her whole reality -- is not as it seems.

THE THETA GIRL is a psychedelic horror film in which all the "good guys" are women and (most of) the bad guys are men. It's an existential sex/drugs/rock'n'roll movie with buckets of blood, lots of writhing bodies and a completely insane soundtrack. It'll pass the Bechdel Test.

Chris and David have ponied up $10,000 of their own money to make THE THETA GIRL. But they need at least another $7,000 to pay the cast and crew. Today, the filmmakers are launching a 40-day Go Fund Me campaign. Rewards include copies of the film, featured extra roles and even producer credits. Funders not only get sweet swag and, for some, a chance to be in a movie -- in giving, they also become filmmakers themselves.

David wrote the script for THE THETA GIRL. Chris is directing and editing and pulling together an eclectic soundtrack of coldwave, femme punk, experimental noise, and swampgospel. The pair have indicated that a feature-length version of TEENAGE CALIGULA is their likely follow-up to THE THETA GIRL.

Principal photography begins in December for a release date in mid-2017. THE THETA GIRL is going to be great. Just how great ... is up to the film's funders.

Aren't Christmas slasher movies the best? There are quite a few of them out there but not all of them are good movies. I wanted to wait a few more weeks to watch this one a little closer to Christmas but I thought what the hell I am dying to see this one. Besides, killer Santa Clauses are creepy any time of the year.

Rachel(Ashley Mary Nunes) returns to town after some time for the holiday season to visit her Grandma and see some old friends. Little does she know there is a killer on the loose dressed as Santa, chopping his way through the neighborhood. No one is safe from the wrath of Santa and a pair of garden sheers.

This film does not waste any time at all and gets right down to business. The cast is mostly no one you are going to know except of course for scream queen Jessica Cameron. . All in all for the cast the acting was pretty decent. Honestly it was better than I had expected. I always enjoy an Indie movie that is a pleasant surprise and not a total letdown. The best part of watching Indie horror is you know you aren't going to be subjected to shitty CGI. Instead all effects are natural the way they should be. The gore factor and the death scenes are excellent.

What kept me drawn into this one was the story. Plenty of twists and turns and keeps you thinking what we are going to find out next. You probably can't tell that from my description of the movie but I really didn't want to give too much away and ruin it for you guys. Some of my favorite slasher films are the Christmas slashers. This definitely goes on the list of must watch during the holiday season. I am giving All Through the House 7.5 out of 10 stars. This one is worthy of being on your Christmas list. Stay twisted everyone!

Sometimes I watch a movie and wonder how it never received more acclaim at it's time of release. As genre fans we tend to find more gems well after the release dates. We discover these movies through word of mouth or websites like this. The horror community is always eager to share their discoveries amongst each other. We take pride in creating cult classics well after their run on the big screen is over, no matter how brief that time may have been. Obviously because of technology and social media, this has become a much easier achievement. Keep searching my fellow horror junkies, many films slipped through the cracks and remain undiscovered or underappreciated. One of these underappreciated films is Ravenous.

Ravenous is the story of a disgraced war hero, Captain Boyd. Boyd (Guy Pearce) is sent to join some other military misfits at a remote post, along a pilgrimage trail. They save the life of a man wandering in the cold wilderness (Robert Carlyle) and he regales them with his tale of how he got there and what he had to do to get there. This is the point when I knew I had found something special, Carlyle's monologue is chilling and expertly delivered. It sets the tone for the rest of the movie which fails to disappoint. I hesitate to give away much more but needless to say, cannibalism and man's inner battles are the main themes of the film

I think the main reason Ravenous was and possibly still is underappreciated is it could be mistaken for a mainstream film with a quick glance at the film's poster or cover. The cast of Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle was perhaps misleading to genre fans. Throw in David Arquette and the often recognized face but rarely recognized name of Jeffrey Jones and it may become a tough sell for some horror fans. Remember this is before 28 Weeks Later and after The Full Monty. Carlyle was maybe pigeonholed in our minds as comedic and not horror worthy. I guarantee this was also misleading for fans of mainstream film at the time. I would believe this title was rented from Blockbuster and returned only partially watched by more than a few people in the early 2000's.

With some truly mesmerizing scenes that increase the heart rate, an equally fantastic score and some great performances, Ravenous is beautifully done. Splash in some dark humour and amazing outdoor shots and it garners repeated watches. I have friends who aren't big horror fans who loved this film and are still terrified by it. I also have some very seasoned horror friends who aren't shy to place this in their top five horror favorites. Go give it a watch, tell me what you think and remember.....you are who you eat.
