Syfy's Haven Welcomes Recurring Guest Stars

NEW YORK – August 8, 2013 – Emma Lahana (Hellcats, Emily Owens M.D.) and Christian Camargo (Dexter, The Hurt Locker) will join the cast of Syfy’s popular series Haven when the show returns for its fourth season on Friday, September 13 at 10PM (ET/PT). Both actors join Colin Ferguson (Eureka, Coupling) who portrays William, a handsome mysterious stranger whose secret agenda leads him to Audrey (Emily Rose), as recurring guest stars this fall.

Emma Lahana portrays “Jennifer Mason” an eccentric, energetic and just a bit off-kilter young lady who gets pulled into Haven’s mysteries when she starts hearing strange voices in her head. These voices lead her to crossing paths with a town fixture who suspects her “condition” could produce valuable clues about Audrey Parker’s (Emily Rose) whereabouts. As Jennifer digs into her own personal history, she discovers she may have a bigger role to play in the strange happenings in Haven.

Meanwhile, Christian Camargo plays “Wade Crocker” the estranged half-brother of Haven mainstay Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour). Charming, driven, and slightly devious, Wade is a successful and good-natured businessman who seems to be at the top of his game. But, Wade is a Crocker through and through and could be tempted by a dark and lethal family secret that just may be his undoing.

Season 4 of Haven picks up six months after the devastating events of the Season 3 cliffhanger in which the town was pummeled by a violent meteor storm. Audrey and Duke vanished into thin air leaving an injured Nathan (Lucas Bryant) marooned in Haven.

During its third season, Haven averaged 2.3 million total viewers, 1.1 million Adults 25-54 and 901,000 Adults 18-49. It was the #1 cable drama during its Friday night at 10 PM timeslot (based on Live + 7 data) in Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and total viewers.

Haven, based on the novella, The Colorado Kid, from renowned author Stephen King, follows former FBI agent Audrey Parker, who becomes a cop in the small town of Haven, Maine, and soon discovers the town’s many secrets – which also hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of her lost past.

Trailer and Artwork Released for The Crying Dead

Production on The Crying Dead completed in 2012, outside of Los Angeles, California. This horror title focuses on six filmmakers, who hope to make it big in the paranormal reality show market. They find the surprise of their lives, instead! Since 2012, the film has undergone several edits and enhancements to heighten the film’s many ghostly thrills. And now, in 2013, Viva Pictures, along with Busted Knuckle Productions, have announced thatThe Crying Dead will release on DVD September 17th 2013.

The Crying Dead involves paranormal research in a haunted psychiatric hospital. Six filmmakers break into and search the abandoned Ettersburgh Psychiatric Hospital, for signs of hauntings. Pressure from the studios demands an exciting show and this film crew will go to any lengths and to any depths to find evidence of ghostly visits. The spirits of three young girls, who were murdered in this hospital, wait for them in the bowels of this derelict building. Now, Chris (Chris Hayes), Jeff (Jeff Stearns), Becka (Becka Adams), Angelina (Angelina Lyubomirova), Callie (Callie Cameron) and Andrew (Andrew Olson) will have to battle with these spirits and each other, if they are to escape this hellish location.

Fans of supernatural thrillers can preview the release details for The Crying Dead, here. The film’s DVD artwork focuses on the three girls, who haunt the film crew. As well, the artwork shows one of the dark halls of the Ettersburgh Hospital. The official trailer for the release is now available and the clip shows many of the practical effects from the film. Sinister Visions Official Trailer Released

In A WOMAN SCORNED we meet Gail tied to a bed by Holly. Gail have had the nerve to start a relationship with Richard, who unfortunately is Holly’s former husband – and Gail does not approve at all!

Finally, GENITAL GENOCIDE presents us to serial killer Charles Albert Harris who, sitting on death row waiting for the switch to be turned on, takes us through his crimes while the audience of the court room listens. Harris wants a last reaction out of the audience that consists of many relatives of his audience – and a reaction he gets.

Breath of Bones: A Tale of Golem - COMIC REVIEW

Let me start off by saying I am by no means a comic aficionado. I haven't read every comic out there. I don't make it a habit to attend comic cons nor have I gone out of my way to meet writers or artists in that field. I am a comic book rookie. In fact, after a particularly bad incident at one comic store, I almost decided it wasn't for me at all. But I stayed with it and I have been doing my share of reading lately. I can say for sure that I definitely have some favorites and some not so favorite. If you follow me on Twitter, you've probably already guessed who is who by now. Regardless... Have fun and rejoice in my first ever COMIC BOOK REVIEW.

Every year we host a film festival where people donate items to a silent auction which are then sold off for charity. Last year, we received a book called Freaks of the Heartland by Steve Niles. It got to us a little late so we weren't able to auction it and so it sat there for a bit, waiting for it's turn. Me, never really having an interest in comics, didn't pay much attention to it but as we were preparing for our 2013 festival, there it was... still waiting. I decided to give it a go and I was pretty amazed and taken aback by the story and the artwork which of course, led me to wanna know more about this Niles character. It was then that I came across Breath of Bones.

Breath of Bones is set during World War II and focuses on a small Jewish village whose men have all gone off to war leaving only the women, children and elderly to fend for themselves. The story focuses on the relationship between Noah and his Grandfather as Noah struggles to deal with his Father going off to war. When a plane crash lands near the village, Noah insists they help the injured pilot which puts the entire community in the sights of the Nazi soldiers. Backed against a wall with nowhere to go, Noah's Grandfather gathers the villagers to help summon the creature of Jewish folklore... the Golem.

After seeing the artwork and briefly looking over the synopsis, I can say that the finished product is nothing like I'd imagined. It's a beautifully crafted story that easily grabs your attention from the very first page. You're drawn into Noah's world, you witness the loss of his innocence to hate and war but yet he still manages to keep his sincerity and sense of right and wrong. It's a very simple story told in a very elegant way. Writers Niles and Matt Santoro have turned me.

And the artwork... O-M-G the artwork by Dave Wachter is simply stunning... amazing... phenomenal. I'm not sure what else I can say about it other than that. Except maybe that I'll be looking up Wachter now to see more of his work. Yay comics!!

It's a process people, hang in there with me... I'm coming around. With comics like Breath of Bones, it won't take much to get me there either.

The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) - REVIEW

Looking at the film reviews on the site I noticed that a few of my favorites had not been reviewed yet.  The Slumber Party Massacre is one of them.  SPM came out in 1982 right at the beginning of the slasher craze and it goes down as one of the greats.  Film legend Roger Corman was about to put his mark on the slasher's of the 80's in a big way.

Trish (Michelle Michaels) gets ready to go to school as her parents leave for vacation as Trish is having an all girls party at the house that night.  It has already come over the radio that convicted murderer Russ Thorn (Michael Villella) has escaped from prison and is again on the loose.  After basketball practice Trish tries to invite the new girl to the party, Valerie (Robin Stille), but she does not want to attend even though she lives next to Trish.  As the girls gather for the party at Trish's and they have no idea they are being watched by a convicted murderer and may be the last night any of them see.  The first of the girls to go in the house is Diane (Gina Smika Hunter) who is in the garage getting in a car to leave with her beheaded boyfriend.  The girls have to get help but are afraid to leave.  As 2 guys are with them they volunteer to go next door and get help from Valerie but will they make it back?

SPM is one of my personal favorites of slasher films.  Watching this movie with all the gratuitous nudity it is hard to believe that it was directed by a woman.  Amy Holden Jones did a fantastic job with this movie, originally meant to be a tongue in cheek film with more comedy than horror.  It turned out to be more horror than anything, with some humorous parts too.  Anyone who is a slasher fan knows that horror and comedy are a great mix.  One of the things that I really liked about the film aside from the gorgeous women gallivanting on the screen was the score.  To me it really is creepy as creepy gets.

The main characters and the supporting cast were all fantastic in their roles.  Especially the lead role of Valerie played by Robin Stille.  Unfortunately Robin did not make it through the 90's but still left her mark on a few 80's gems.  Also with her first speaking role in a film was Brinke Stevens who is also the first of the girls to die, she just never makes it to the party.  I am going to go out on a limb with this one and rate it 9 out of 10 stars.  It really deserves the attention of one of the great 80's horror films.  Stay twisted everyone!

Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) - REVIEW

1988 was a great year for horror and more noteably a great year for horror sequels.  Some famous sequels that found fame this year included: Phantasm II, Nightmare on Elm Street 4, and Halloween 4 which featured the return of Michael Myers to the big screen.  Part 7 had stiff competition but the franchise was coming off a successful Part 6 which was the return of Jason.  With a little known that worked out great together on screen and a new person to don the Jason apparel it was poised to be a box office hit.

Tina (Lar Park Lincoln) and her mother (Susan Blu) were on their way to their cabin on crystal lake were Tina's Father died when they were younger.  He died when the dock he was on collapsed because of Tina's Psychic ability.  At the cabin Dr Crews (Terry Kiser) , Tina's doctor from the mental hospital, was waiting for them.  Dr Crews unbeknownst to Tina and her Mother had a secret agenda for the weekend and that was to see what he could push Tina to do with her abilites.  Tina dislikes the doctor quite a bit and after an argument runs outside to the dock where her Father died and tries to use her powers to bring him back but instead she raises Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) from his watery grave were Tommy Jarvis had put him.  Jason is alive again and had plenty of targets this time with Tina's cabin and the party of teenagers going on at the cabin next to it.  Who will survive the bloodbath this time?

The New Blood is probably my second favorite sequel in the series.  One of this installments strongest points was its cast.  Lar Park Lincoln was wonderful as the lead/final girl and Kevin Blair (or whatever name he goes by now) and Kane Hodder were great in supporting roles.  This was the Kane's first time as Jason and unlike anyone else who wore the mask or the one eyed sack he is the only person to play Jason through multiple sequels.  The story was also pretty solid.  I mean when you get to Part 7 ideas have to be running out on how to bring something fresh to the series but they found it with the Carrie vs Jason battle.  This is an opponent that Jason has never faced before and is obviously his biggest test yet.

I do enjoy the death scenes in this one more than the rest as well.  Each installment they keep coming up with new ways for Jason to maul his victims and they always look great.  I would have liked to have seen an unedited scene of the sleeping bag death in the finished film but the one hit is effective too I guess.   I would rank The New Blood right up there with some of the best horror films out there and not just to the ones that were released in 1988.  It's not often when a mass murderer does not have the upper hand against his or her victim.  I give this film 8 out of 10 stars.  Stay twisted everyone!
