John Schneider's Smothered to Premiere in New Orleans in May

Actor and filmmaker John Schneider (Smallville, Dukes of Hazzard) has rounded up some of horror's most famous faces for Smothered, premiering in New Orleans in May.

The highly-anticipated fright-fest, which features the likes of Kane Hodder, Don Shanks, R.A Mihailoff, Bill Moseley, and Brea Grant boasts the largest number of horror icons ever to grace the screen at the same time.

Smothered, written and directed by Schneider, sees the horror icons playing themselves in a scenario that sees them attending a small, disheartening horror-convention on Friday the 13th. Running out of patience but principally money, the group accept a cash-offer to go and scare-up the local RV park - but things take a surprising, dark turn when they arrive. The tables are turned as the monsters of the movie screen become the prey!

A recent sneak preview resulted in glowing reviews across-the-board, with critics calling the movie "a horror-comedy with some bite" (Shock Til You Drop) and " A must see cinematic event" (Examiner).

Smothered will premiere in Louisiana, where the film was shot and Schneider's Fairlight Films is now located.

The premiere, being held at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel on Friday May 16, encompass a pre-screening social hour and post-screening Q&A with Schneider.

Members of the film's cast and crew, as well as city dignitaries are expected to be in attendance.

Smothered, also featuring Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), John Kassir ('The Crypt Keeper'), Dane Rhodes (True Detective), and Shanna Forrestall (The Last Exorcism), is due for release late 2014.

Final Casting Announcements for Robert Hall’s “FEAR CLINIC”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Dry County Entertainment, founded by director Robert Green Hall (MTV’S Teen Wolf, Laid to Rest, Lightning Bug) and Fear Chamber LLC, are proud to announce the final round of casting details for their upcoming production of the feature film FEAR CLINIC.

FEAR CLINIC began as a 2009 horror series for FearNet that consisted of five episodes starring up-and-coming talent like Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) and Kate Nauta (Transporter 2) as well as horror icons Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4) and Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees). The series and upcoming film stars Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise) as Dr. Andover, a fear doctor who treats patients afflicted with crippling phobias by inducing hallucinations inside his exposure therapy invention; The Fear Chamber. The series, which focused on a different phobia every episode, received critical acclaim including two 2010 Streamy Awards (Best Sound Design and Best Visual FX for Hall’s company Almost Human) and reached over five million hits on FearNet.com. It has since been added to On Demand and mainstream channels Youtube and Hulu, making it the most-watched horror web series in history.

The project has been in active development for a feature film, written by Robert Hall and Aaron Drane. The story has seen a shift from the series, however; instead of the episodic nature of the original show, the film will focus on a variety of phobias that all stem from one traumatic event.

Grammy award-winning music icon Corey Taylor, vocalist and frontman for rock bands Slipknot and Stone Sour, has joined the cast. Taylor was named one of the Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time by Hit Parader. He is also a writer whose novel Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good skyrocketed to bestseller status within days of its release. The Stone Sour two-volume album House of Gold and Bones has also recently been adapted into a comic book format. FEAR CLINIC will see Taylor in the role of Bauer, one of the employees of the clinic who struggles to keep things under control when all Hell breaks loose.

Felisha Terrell (Days of Our LivesI) who wowed viewers with her recurring role as Kali on MTV’s Teen Wolf, will reunite with director Robert Hall as she joins FEAR CLINIC to take on the role of Osborn, a therapist at the clinic and second-in-command to Dr. Andover (Robert Englund).

Also attached to the project is Brandon Beemer (Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful) as Dylan, a famous moto-cross rider who will stop at nothing to protect his girlfriend from the darkness plaguing their lives.

These talents join previously-announced FEAR CLINIC cast Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, Thomas Dekker, Kevin Gage, Cleopatra Coleman and Angelina Armani.

The film may be a more mature realization of the concept from the series, but at the heart of the story it focuses on the cerebral nature of fear itself and the manifestations it can take for different people.

The film opens with a tragedy that launches five people into the public eye and enlists Dr. Andover to lend his expertise to help them overcome trauma-induced phobias. A year later, terrifying ‘aftershocks’ rattle the survivors, leading to them finding their way back to the fear clinic seeking answers. As they line up for another turn in the chamber, Dr. Andover believes that something more sinister may be at work.

FEAR CLINIC is currently filming for a Halloween 2014 release.

Project updates can be followed on social media. Visit https://www.facebook.com/fearthecure , @fearclinicmovie on Twitter, or @robertgreenhall to keep up with the director’s transmissions from set.

Hatchet III (2013) - REVIEW

Adam Green is at it again with another installment of Hatchet.  I am a fan of the Hatchet series but not really sure how much they could really do with it.  It was not one of the movies I was really looking forward to coming out.  Today I was a Best Buy and saw it for a pretty fair price so I decided to take a chance on it.  I had heard good things about the movie but have also heard some negative reviews as well.  I had some time to kill today so what the hell.

Picking up right were Part II left off with Mary Beth (Danielle Harris) pumping shotgun shells into the face of Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder).  As she is walking away she finds a chainsaw and tries to get it started but Victor is not dead and picks her up by the throat.  Mary Beth frees herself and Victor falls onto the chainsaw being chopped into halves.  She grabs a piece of his face and heads to the police station with a shotgun in hand.  She is not really welcomed into the police station very friendly being covered in blood, holding a shotgun and the piece of Victor Crowley's face.  Sheriff Folwer (Zach Galligan) gets the situation under control and takes Mary Beth into custody.  Mary Beth is now locked up having told her story, the Sheriff not believing her still sends a team out to the swamp to take a look.  What they find is the corpse party that Victor left behind.  Amanda (Caroline Williams) is the sheriffs ex wife and she is a big believer in the Crowley legend.  She knows he is not dead and she also knows the way to kill him once and for all.

The Hatchet movies have always been one for gratuitous gore but this one really out does itself.  The shear blood splatter and innards spilling out is really enough to make this movie enjoyable for me.  You also have to respect the fact that there is no CGI used.  All of the effects are natural and the way they should be.  CGI really can ruin a movie for me.  I have alot of respect for Adam Green for refusing to use CGI.

Ultimately aside from the gore what I really like about this is the cast.  Danielle Harris returning as Mary Beth and also some genre veterans like Caroline Williams, Derek Mears and Sid Haig has a cameo as well.  I think part III is the best of the series by far.  The movie is just a ton of fun to watch for any hardcore horror fan.  I would rate this 7 out of 10 stars and suggest you get out and at least give this one a shot.  Stay twisted everyone!

New Release Date Set for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th

1428 Films, Panic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have announced that the release date for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th has been moved to Friday, September 13th, 2013. The documentary was originally slated for release on August 27th.

"Because of the scope of the show and in order to craft the best, most interesting and entertaining look at the films and TV series, it became necessary to give the post-production process a bit more time,” says producer Thommy Hutson. “Ultimately, though, we are thrilled with the show and can't wait for fans to get back to camp - and we think Mrs. Voorhees and Jason would be happy with the new date!"

"Having spent well over a year in production on Crystal Lake Memories, we wanted to take a little more time to give fans the definitive Friday the 13th documentary they've been waiting for," explains writer/director Daniel Farrands. "Not only were we able to line up a couple of last-minute interviews for our bonus disc and record a full filmmaker commentary track, it just made more sense to wait a couple of weeks and release Crystal Lake Memories on the ‘unlucky day’ it celebrates: Friday the 13th."

The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of the documentary, which runs a staggering 400 minutes, can currently be pre-ordered exclusively via the film’s official website. An exclusive bonus disc containing approximately 4 hours of extended interview material will be included with orders placed on the website. After the soft release on September 13th, the film will be available to the general public on October 8th.

Corey Feldman (star of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) narrates Crystal Lake Memories, which features interviews with approximately 150 cast and crew members from all twelve Friday the 13th films and the syndicated television series, many of whom have never before appeared in on-camera interviews. Interview subjects include Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tom Savini, Danielle Panabaker, Sean S. Cunningham, Derek Mears, Betsy Palmer, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Alice Cooper and many more.

Crystal Lake Memories promises to be the definitive retrospective on the unstoppable Friday the 13th franchise. The film is written and directed by Farrands and produced by Hutson, who previously teamed up for the award-winning Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.

Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) - REVIEW

1988 was a great year for horror and more noteably a great year for horror sequels.  Some famous sequels that found fame this year included: Phantasm II, Nightmare on Elm Street 4, and Halloween 4 which featured the return of Michael Myers to the big screen.  Part 7 had stiff competition but the franchise was coming off a successful Part 6 which was the return of Jason.  With a little known that worked out great together on screen and a new person to don the Jason apparel it was poised to be a box office hit.

Tina (Lar Park Lincoln) and her mother (Susan Blu) were on their way to their cabin on crystal lake were Tina's Father died when they were younger.  He died when the dock he was on collapsed because of Tina's Psychic ability.  At the cabin Dr Crews (Terry Kiser) , Tina's doctor from the mental hospital, was waiting for them.  Dr Crews unbeknownst to Tina and her Mother had a secret agenda for the weekend and that was to see what he could push Tina to do with her abilites.  Tina dislikes the doctor quite a bit and after an argument runs outside to the dock where her Father died and tries to use her powers to bring him back but instead she raises Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) from his watery grave were Tommy Jarvis had put him.  Jason is alive again and had plenty of targets this time with Tina's cabin and the party of teenagers going on at the cabin next to it.  Who will survive the bloodbath this time?

The New Blood is probably my second favorite sequel in the series.  One of this installments strongest points was its cast.  Lar Park Lincoln was wonderful as the lead/final girl and Kevin Blair (or whatever name he goes by now) and Kane Hodder were great in supporting roles.  This was the Kane's first time as Jason and unlike anyone else who wore the mask or the one eyed sack he is the only person to play Jason through multiple sequels.  The story was also pretty solid.  I mean when you get to Part 7 ideas have to be running out on how to bring something fresh to the series but they found it with the Carrie vs Jason battle.  This is an opponent that Jason has never faced before and is obviously his biggest test yet.

I do enjoy the death scenes in this one more than the rest as well.  Each installment they keep coming up with new ways for Jason to maul his victims and they always look great.  I would have liked to have seen an unedited scene of the sleeping bag death in the finished film but the one hit is effective too I guess.   I would rank The New Blood right up there with some of the best horror films out there and not just to the ones that were released in 1988.  It's not often when a mass murderer does not have the upper hand against his or her victim.  I give this film 8 out of 10 stars.  Stay twisted everyone!

Kane Hodder and Tyler Mane to Star in Fan Driven Horror Film

HORROR CELEBRITIES KANE HODDER (“JASON VOORHEES") & TYLER MANE ("MICHAELMYERS") TO STAR IN FAN-DRIVEN HORROR MOVIE

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 7, 2012)—The actors who portrayed two of the most notorious serial killers in cinema are teaming up to do a feature-length film specifically for and with horror fans. It’s called “Casket County Massacre” (www.CasketCounty.com).

Kane Hodder ("Jason Voorhees" in Friday the 13th Parts 7-10, “Victor Crowley” in Hatchet 1-3) and Tyler Mane ("Michael Myers" in Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies, "Sabretooth" in X-Men) have joined deadly forces to play immortal outlaw brothers from the 1850s who terrorize a modern day all-girl rock band in a deserted ghost town.

In a new approach to filmmaking, the creative team will also involve fans by giving them behind-the-scenes access to the production via a "Filmmaker" website. Fans will have the opportunity to view auditions and help cast the film, decide key plot points, vote on who lives and who dies, and see special effects and other production crafts at work during the making of the movie, and much more.

“I wish something like this existed 20 years ago,” says Hodder who is a horror fan himself. “What better way to actually have a hand in making a horror film than to be a part of it from the beginning like we’re going to do with Casket County Massacre."

Director Paul Morrell ("Texas Chainsaw Musical," "Filth to Ashes," "Huff") and the stars of the film have all signed on pending fan-funding of the project through the popular Kickstarter website (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sumojack/casket-county-massacre). Supporters can pledge from $10 to $10,000 and receive rewards such astheir name in the credits, DVDs of the movie when it’s released in 2013, get slaughtered in the film by Hodder or Mane, become a co-producer of the movie with full access to the set, or even receive a major role complete with acting lessons and dialogue coach.

“This is a dream come true,” proclaims Mane who says he loved pretending he was Billy the Kid when he was a child. “We’re going to have a lot of fun and we’re going to kill a lot of people."

This is the first time Hodder and Mane will appear in the same film.

To view a welcome video featuring Hodder and Mane or donate to the project, visit www.CasketCounty.com.

Monstermatt Patterson, Kyle Kaczmarczyk and West Neb Books are pleased to announce the upcoming Monstermatt's Bad Monster Jokes Vol.2, slated for a 2012 Halloween release.
This follows up the well-received first volume “bad” monster jokes. Monstermatt’s Vad Monster Jokes Vol.1 collected over 400 gags, puns, and rhymes. Vol.1 showcased monsters, horror films and all sorts of characters and creeps from across the horror genre. Vol.2 will have nearly 500 jokes, picking up where Vol.1 left off, to simultaneously lampoon and honor the obscure and profound elements of the weird world of monsters.

Vol.1 continues to receive great reviews from all over the globe. Vol.1 poked fun at independent films like Basket Case, The Manitou, The Human Centipede and Tromafilms, while also joking on the classicUniversal Monsters and movies.
What can readers expect from the follow up? Vol.2 keeps that theme alive, taking aim at the Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Faces of Death, Trog and many more! Once again, using a formula of rhymes, song parody lyrics, puns and zingers, coupled with insightful and humorous illustrations, the duo of Kaczmarczyk and Patterson hope to keep you grinning, groaning and laughing!

Monstermatt Patterson, dubbed ‘The Man of a Thousand Bad Monster Jokes,’ says, "We wanted to pay tribute to the classics, the b-movies, the grindhouse and obscure films, while making it fun and even educational, for most every age group, from horror novice to professional. We've gotten many emails about people getting into horror and or further into it, all because of the jokes and illustrations. There is something for nearly everyone!”

Praise for Monstermatt Patterson:
"If puns are guns, Monstermatt is a freakin' one man army!" -Tomb Dragomir, host of Rue Morgue Radio and Tomb TV "Monstermatt's jokes are so bad, they make me want to kill people. Hatchet II 2010 - REVIEW

If you've followed my sight for very long then you know that I am a huge Adam Green fan. He is quickly becoming a force to reckon with in the horror community. From the original Hatchet to Spiral to Frozen he has consistently given horror fans what they want. The original Hatchet didn't do so well in theaters but gained a huge following once the DVD was released. Green was pelted with requests for a sequel and once again gave horror fans what they wanted. Believe me when I say he knows what we (well most of us) want. A rip roaring good time full of gore and cheesy one liners. He makes me, a child of the 80's, feel like a kid again with his ability to channel the old school style and bring it to life on the big screen.

Once again, we join Marybeth (Danielle Harris) at the exact moment the original ended as she escapes the clutches of Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). Marybeth seeks out Rev. Zombie (Tony Todd) in search of answers regarding her family's connection to the slasher in the swamp. With his own ulterior motives in mind, he gathers a group of money-hungry hunters and heads off to the swamp to confront the legendary evil.

Before I give my thoughts on the film I have to say that I am seriously disappointed in my local horror community. We got to the theater an hour ahead of start time because I was certain there would be a line of hungry horror fans just waiting to indulge in the gore and mayhem. Turns out it wasn't necessary because we were the only four people in the theater. It was nice because we could kick back and enjoy the film without all the usual distractions but I'd expected to see so many more genre fans come out in support of unrated horror. All the bitching and complaining on Twitter and Facebook about horror not having a voice and this is unfair and that's unfair and we're the only four people in there? WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE! Nothing is gonna change if we keep pussing around and shying away from things we should be standing up for. Ok, stepping off my soap box now.

Keeping with typical slasher format, there really isn't much character development going on but under the circumstances it's not really necessary. Green knows how to make a fun film and if he wanted it to be a likable cast, he'd have written them that way. I often have issues when there's a major cast change in a sequel but veteran scream queen Danielle Harris fit perfectly into the role of Marybeth. Colton Dunn's character Vernon cracked me up every time he appeared on screen. His 'Chicken and Biscuits' song had me rolling. Word is it was completely improvised but I can't say for sure. Parry Shen makes another appearance as the goof ball side kick. Not much different than his role in the original except he may be a little smarter this time around... NAH. AJ Bowen has what will probably go down in horror history as one of the best sex scenes ever. I had hoped he'd have a little more screen time but he made an impression nonetheless. Even Adam Green makes an appearance as a puking Mardi Gras patron. And let's not forget horror veteran R.A. Mihailoff as the take no shit hunter Trent.

Hatchet II starts off rather slow, much slower than the original but rest assured the violence is coming. And while we're on the subject, Green comes up with some of the most creative kill scenes in horror history and apparently scoured the shelves of Fastenal for the biggest chainsaw I have ever seen. It's a good thing Kane Hodder is both Jason and Victor Crowley otherwise there might be a little chainsaw envy going on there. Originally I wasn't convinced that it would make sense for Marybeth to go right back into the swamp after the shit storm she just survived but Green worked his magic and made it plausible. This film is what it is and you know exactly what you're in for when you walk in the theater (well now you have to wait for the DVD - thanks MPAA). Green set out to make a 100% fan film and that's what he did. It's a throwback and a tribute to every slasher before it. Full of grit and guts and campy humor. You're either gonna love it or hate it.

Even though Hatchet II was unfairly pulled from theaters the point has been made. It will still go down in history as one of the few unrated films to show in theaters and all the attention it's getting will bring more horror fans to the DVD once it's released. Whether you're a Hatchet fan or not you have to respect Green for sticking to his guns and fighting for his film to be shown in all it's gory... er... glory. Kudos to him bringing attention to cause of unrated horror. I'm sure it gave him many headaches and caused him much stress but hopefully more indie directors/producers/studios will take a cue from him and fight for the same privileges the bigger budget productions are given.
