Fear Clinic 2014 - REVIEW

Fear Clinic is based off the web series that was on FearNet but I never got FearNet so I kind of went into this one blind.  The only thing I knew is it had to do with dreams and Robert Englund was in it.  Hmmmm, sounds awfully familiar.  Having not even read much about this I really didn't even know what this was about before I watched it.  If anything I thought the pretty star studded cast would round out everything.

Dr Andover (Robert Englund) runs a fear clinic where he looks to help people with their phobias.  The patients go inside the invention he has created where they face their fears and he is with them every step of the way.  Till one day something goes horribly wrong and his patient never wakes up and eventually dies.  Dr Andover puts up his machine and shuts down the Fear Clinic.  Till Sara (Fiona Douriff) goes back for his help.  Little does Dr Andover know but the Fear Clinic is about to open for business again.

I am really glad I only paid $9.99 for the blu ray of this.  I didn't totally hate this movie but I really couldn't get into it.  I think the story was written well enough but it really drags and goes way too long without anything happening.  Honestly the only thing this movie really had going for it was Robert Englund.  I thought the rest of the cast wasn't too bad either but if it wasn't for him I probably would not have even blind bought this movie.  I do have to say that Corey Taylor should stick to singing because he is a really bad actor.

I really wanted to love this movie but it just wasn't in the cards this time.  I may try giving it another shot and see if I like it more but as it stands now a big thumbs down is in order.  Fear Clinic will find a target audience and there are some people that are going to dig it but not me.  I would rate this one 4 out of 10 stars.  Stay twisted everyone!

Top 5 Films of 2013

Now that 2013 is over and we are almost through our first month of 2014 i guess it is time to unveil the top 5 from the year past.  You will notice that there will be a few big movies of last year that didn't quite make the cut on my list.

5) The Curse of Chucky
I really enjoyed the new entry in the Child's Play series.  Fiona Dourif played a great part and the story interlocking with the first movie was outstanding.  It really kept me in the movie the whole time.

4) Carrie
While I am not a big fan of remakes I was digging the reimagining of Carrie.  An outstanding cast with a fantastic climax.

3) The Conjuring
One of the few movies to actually make me jump multiple times and scare the crap out of me.

2) You're Next
I recently saw and reviewed this one.  Like I said not the most original movie but definitely worthy of being on this list

1) American Mary
The top of 2013 for me.  Katy Isabelle was phenomenal with her best role yet and the Soska sisters really put together a great movie with this one.  One of the most unique horror films of the year definitely.

Final Casting Announcements for Robert Hall’s “FEAR CLINIC”

LOS ANGELES, CA – Dry County Entertainment, founded by director Robert Green Hall (MTV’S Teen Wolf, Laid to Rest, Lightning Bug) and Fear Chamber LLC, are proud to announce the final round of casting details for their upcoming production of the feature film FEAR CLINIC.

FEAR CLINIC began as a 2009 horror series for FearNet that consisted of five episodes starring up-and-coming talent like Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) and Kate Nauta (Transporter 2) as well as horror icons Danielle Harris (Halloween 4), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4) and Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees). The series and upcoming film stars Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise) as Dr. Andover, a fear doctor who treats patients afflicted with crippling phobias by inducing hallucinations inside his exposure therapy invention; The Fear Chamber. The series, which focused on a different phobia every episode, received critical acclaim including two 2010 Streamy Awards (Best Sound Design and Best Visual FX for Hall’s company Almost Human) and reached over five million hits on FearNet.com. It has since been added to On Demand and mainstream channels Youtube and Hulu, making it the most-watched horror web series in history.

The project has been in active development for a feature film, written by Robert Hall and Aaron Drane. The story has seen a shift from the series, however; instead of the episodic nature of the original show, the film will focus on a variety of phobias that all stem from one traumatic event.

Grammy award-winning music icon Corey Taylor, vocalist and frontman for rock bands Slipknot and Stone Sour, has joined the cast. Taylor was named one of the Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time by Hit Parader. He is also a writer whose novel Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good skyrocketed to bestseller status within days of its release. The Stone Sour two-volume album House of Gold and Bones has also recently been adapted into a comic book format. FEAR CLINIC will see Taylor in the role of Bauer, one of the employees of the clinic who struggles to keep things under control when all Hell breaks loose.

Felisha Terrell (Days of Our LivesI) who wowed viewers with her recurring role as Kali on MTV’s Teen Wolf, will reunite with director Robert Hall as she joins FEAR CLINIC to take on the role of Osborn, a therapist at the clinic and second-in-command to Dr. Andover (Robert Englund).

Also attached to the project is Brandon Beemer (Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful) as Dylan, a famous moto-cross rider who will stop at nothing to protect his girlfriend from the darkness plaguing their lives.

These talents join previously-announced FEAR CLINIC cast Robert Englund, Fiona Dourif, Thomas Dekker, Kevin Gage, Cleopatra Coleman and Angelina Armani.

The film may be a more mature realization of the concept from the series, but at the heart of the story it focuses on the cerebral nature of fear itself and the manifestations it can take for different people.

The film opens with a tragedy that launches five people into the public eye and enlists Dr. Andover to lend his expertise to help them overcome trauma-induced phobias. A year later, terrifying ‘aftershocks’ rattle the survivors, leading to them finding their way back to the fear clinic seeking answers. As they line up for another turn in the chamber, Dr. Andover believes that something more sinister may be at work.

FEAR CLINIC is currently filming for a Halloween 2014 release.

Project updates can be followed on social media. Visit https://www.facebook.com/fearthecure , @fearclinicmovie on Twitter, or @robertgreenhall to keep up with the director’s transmissions from set.

Casting Announcements for Robert Hall's Fear Clinic

LOS ANGELES, CA – Dry County Entertainment, founded by director Robert Hall (MTV’S Teen Wolf, Laid to Rest, Lightning Bug) and Fear Chamber LLC, are proud to announce the first round of casting details for their upcoming production of the feature film FEAR CLINIC.

It has since been added to On Demand and mainstream channels Youtube and Hulu, making it the most-watched horror web series in history.

The project has been in active development for a feature film, written by Robert Hall and Aaron Drane.

Robert Englund is back to reprise his role of Dr. Andover and and has found some fresh new patients to treat.

Fiona Dourif won fans with her role on HBO’s True Blood as Casey, a witch with a dark secret, but it was her recent turn as Nica in Curse of Chucky that cemented her as a bright new star in the horror genre. In FEAR CLINIC, Dourif portrays Sara Falls, a young woman whose phobias begins reemerging and must seek out the specialized help of Dr. Andover.

Starring as Blake Patton is Thomas Dekker, who skyrocketed to fame with his roles in cult series such as Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Secret Circle and Heroes as well as films such as Kaboom and Laid To Rest. Blake is a disabled man who is brought into the clinic after surviving a terrible tragedy.

Also announced is Cleopatra Coleman (Step Up: Revolution, Silversun) in the role of the boy-crazy and feisty Megan McAllister, Sara’s best friend who takes arachnophobia to a whole new level.

These actors join talents Angelina Armani (Chromeskull) and Kevin Gage (Heat, Call of Duty: Ghosts) in rounding out the cast.

“This is a whole different playing field,” says director Robert Hall. “My new film has a much darker and surreal tone than the episodes, and I think fans will really appreciate the direction we’re going in.” Regarding the cast, he adds “I’m terribly excited to get to collaborate with Fiona Dourif who blows me away with her talent, and of course Thomas Dekker gets the best out of me when we’re on set and vice versa.”

The film may be a more mature realization of the concept from the series, but at the heart of the story it focuses on the cerebral nature of fear itself and the manifestations it can take for different people.

Curse of Chucky 2013 - REVIEW

I remember it being 1988 and hearing about Child's Play coming to theaters. The story of a killer doll who traumatizes a single mother and her young son. I knew this was one I absolutely HAD to see and when I was finally able to, it didn't disappoint. I can't say the same for the ones that came after but I guess they weren't ALL bad. I was able to stomach them for the most part at least until Seed of Chucky hit theaters some sixteen years later that I was over the franchise. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that one but..... *heavy sigh* So, here we go again with another addition to the franchise that, like Chucky, never seems to die.

Nica (Fiona Dourif), disabled since birth, lives in a decrepit old house with her mother, Sarah (Chantal Quesnelle). When Sarah mysteriously dies, the rest of the family gathers for her funeral. When    Alice (Summer H. Howell), Nica's niece, comes across a doll that arrived days before they become inseparable. One mysterious death after another and Nica finally starts putting two and two together and realizes that the doll, Chucky (Brad Dourif) is responsible. Left to fend for herself, Nica must now figure out how to defeat Chucky and stay alive.

I really wasn't sure what to expect when I heard about this one. I did however know that it would be hard to disappoint an audience after the blasphemous vile that was Seed of Chucky. "Curse" does go back to it's darker roots as well as offering a bit of the dark comedy. Now, what I struggle with is this... do I compare it to the original since it's not a remake or do I simply take it as just another sequel in a long forgotten franchise? It's hard NOT to compare it to the original, especially after watching it and seeing how it all ties together so let's just start there and see what happens.

The acting was very well done. I was completely unaware of Fiona Dourif until now. She's a phenomenal actress who puts a lot into her work. I loved her in this. And of course, you can't have Chucky without Brad Dourif voicing him so it was good to see him back. Little Summer is a peach and just as cute as can be and very talented.
What I didn't much care for was the look of Chucky. He looked like he was in drag most of the time so that was disappointing. The connection to the original film felt a little like an afterthought and wasn't all that believable for me. "Curse" also went on about 10 minutes too long making for an odd end to a slightly above mediocre film. It did have it's high points though. The creepy, dark feel of the film was spot on but I would've liked to have seen it spread out over a longer period of time and in different locations. It got a little redundant watching them chase each other in and out of rooms like a Scooby Doo cartoon. There are copious amounts of blood (even though two of the deaths are off screen) so that will definitely be appeasing to the genre fans. If you're a fan of Chucky, I have no doubt you'll dig it. As I said, it's far, far better than "Seed" so you really can't go wrong with that.

The First Trailer Released for Curse of Chucky - PRESS RELEASE

That lovable little redhead is back!  Well, maybe not so lovable after all.  Curse of Chucky starring Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, and returning to voice Chucky again is the one and only Brad Dourif.  For those how are not fans of the previous 2 installments, worry not.  This is a direct sequel of part 3.  The trailer looks to be darker than any other Child's Play movie to date.  I am thrilled they elected to scrap the humor and ad more suspense and just a plain evil tone to the series again.  To say I am excited for this direct to DVD movie is an understatement.  Check out the trailer below
