Fatality Films Announces JimmyO Burril's The Darling Clementines

Fatality Films, owned and operated by Scott Spiegel and Andrea Albin, has announced its newest production, “The Darling Clementines”, a disturbing film written and directed by JimmyO Burril, the mind behind “The Chainsaw Sally Show”. The production is set to take place this fall in southern Mississippi.

Starring in this film includes such notables as April Burril (“The Chainsaw Sally Show”), Debbie Rochon (“Wrath of the Crows”), Lynn Lowry (“Cat People”) and Vernon Wells (“Mad Max 2: Road Warrior”).

The film centers around the Stevens family vacation, which is tragically cut short by three sisters, hell bent on taking the seed of the males to propagate the Clementine bloodline.

In the world of the Clementines, men are little more than swine, barely fit for breeding, and women of other blood are worth far less. The Stevens family will find themselves abducted, beaten and tortured physically, mentally and sexually as the Clementine sisters seek to break the men to their will and fill their fertile wombs.

“Fill the Earth, and subdue it.”

Indie Horror Team Branches into Drama

While the beginnings of the “Dry Spell” story are tied to Rockford, Illinois, the film is set to have wide ranging talent and scope. Although romantic comedies are common, a truly independent romantic comedy is a rarity and a bold adventure for Aegis Studios. Although they’ve been told it can’t be done, the film-makers at Aegis have chosen (in true DIY fashion) to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund the film and plan to ignore the skeptics.

Kickstarter is a website devoted to helping independent creators raise capital to fund their projects. Groups like Aegis can set a goal and a timeline and offer incentives for investors. Then Kickstarter processes the pledges which aren’t finalized unless the goal is reached. In a way, it’s a method for all interested parties to invest in an artistic project and essentially become a part owner in its success. In the case of this project, the goal is just $23,000 – a very small amount for a film production budget.

While the concept of doing a romantic comedy in such an independent way is novel, the selling points of the project certainly don’t end there. For one thing, the cast is exceptional for an independent film of this magnitude. East Coast native Suzi Lorraine is set to star alongside co-writer Kyle Hoskins. While Lorraine is often seen in horror films, her highest profile role was in “Music and Lyrics” with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Debbie Rochon will also be featured in the film. Rochon is best known for her work in Troma Films productions.

While the creative process that spawned “Dry Spell” started in the Midwestern burg of Rockford, Illinois (home of its film-maker and co-writer Travis Legge), the movie is set to film on location in New York City, adding another layer of interest to the production.

According to the writers, “Dry Spell” is to be a feature length romantic comedy about a woman who is going through a divorce and preparing to enter the dating world. One night she discovers that her ability to become aroused has left her. In short, she's dried up. Believing that this is caused by guilt about moving on before her ex-husband has, she embarks on a quest to get him laid.

Under the Scares 2010 - REVIEW

When I watch a Horror movie I think to myself, "I could do this.  Make a Horror movie that would be easy."  When in all actuality its not easy to come up with the money, get good actors (not your friends), and have a good sounding product.  Anyone can pick up a movie camera and film their girlfriend running around in the woods with her shirt off and boobs flopping everywhere about to be killed by a hooded figure.  It takes so much more than that to make a product that people will actually watch from beginning to end.

Under the Scares is a documentary about the inside of low budget and the independent Horror industry.  From giving tips to young filmmakers to weighing in  with their opinions about how a movie is made.  This documentary is packed full of stars from some of the best independent Horror movies such as Lloyd Kaufman of Troma, Debbie Rochon, Brinke Stevens and Horror icon George A Romero and  many more. Do you want to know what it takes to make a good Horror movie?  Then you definitely need to watch this film.

Director Steve Villeneuve did an awesome job putting this together.  It gives people the inside look of the world of Horror that you have never seen.  Almost a how to type of show from what it takes to keep your actors happy, to how important it is to have a good sounding movie.  I did not realize that if your movie did not sound good that no matter how good it looks people will not want to watch it.  Steve did a great job gathering together all the filmmakers, actors and even effects specialists.  There is not much acting to speak of except for the commentary and interviews from the stars that have made this genre what it is.  The only acting is displayed in the clips from some of the better independent films, and don't worry folks the clips are all the good scenes.  Plenty of blood and gore to go around.

I am not a huge fan of documentaries but there are certain Horror documentaries that I am a fan of.  This is now one of them.  Under the Scares is an amazing film and needs to be viewed by anyone that is a fan of the genre or has any aspirations of making their own short or feature film someday.  They show you all the ins and outs and what it takes to make it in this business.  Whats even more important is you are being told by the people who have made this genre what it is today.  My favorite section of the film that had me intrigued was the section about creating the right sound for your movie.  Explaining in depth on what not to do and what to do to make it sound as good as an expensive film at the showcase cinemas.  If you think buying a camcorder from Best Buy and have all your friends try to act in your movie is the way to go, well you may be disappointed when no one wants to watch it.  Stay twisted everyone!
