Tales From the Crypt Season 1 1989 - REVIEW
Definately one of the best anthology shows to be made in horror history. Tales from the Crypt, a comic book in the 50's, was made into a TV series that premiered on HBO on June 10th 1989. Hosted by a puppet character called The Cryptkeeper and packed with big Hollywood stars. The Crypt keeper introduced every episode in it's 7 season run that sadly ended in 1996. While all of the seasons were nothing short of incredible, the first season is the one that got it all started. A mere 9 years old and I could not get enough of it. Season one consisted of 6 episodes:
1. The Man Who Was Death - Bill Sadler plays a man who worked for a prison as the executioner. When the death penalty is abolished, he loses his job. This did not stop him from taking matters into his own hands and becoming a "shocking" vigilante.
2. And All Through The House - The ultimate Christmas horror story. An escaped mental patient (Larry Drake) is on the loose in a little town and everyone is told to stay in their house till he is apprehended. One particular suburban housewife (Mary Ellen Trainor) did not get that memo. She has just killed her husband and has problems of her own.
3. Dig That Cat.... He is Really Dead - A man on the street named Ulric (Joe Pantoliano) is taken in by a doctor and given money to be his experiment. When Ulric wakes up he learns he had the gland of a cat in him now that will give him 9 lives. So many possibilities for this condition.
4. Only Sin Deep - A tale of a young hooker (Lea Thompson) overcoming a would be pimp and killing him. She try's to pawn his valuables and the broker will not take any of her stuff because it's "hot". But he does offer her 10,000.00 for her beauty. Seems the pawn store owner is into Voodoo.
5. Lover Come Hack To Me - A Nasty tidbit about a newly married couple getting stuck in the middle of nowhere on their wedding night and forced to stay the night in an empty mansion that no one has lived in for a very long time. Fortunately the bride (Amanda Plummer) knows exactly what she is doing.
6. Collection Complete - When a man retires he likes to spend time with the woman he loves and find something to do with himself. In the case of Jonas (M. Emmet Walsh) he spent so much time working that his wife (Audra Lindley) did not know what to do now that he was home. Her cats and dogs have kept her company for so long that she does not know how to act with Jonas around. Until Jonas finds a new hobby that helps with too many animals in the house.
Robert Zemeckis directed so many great episodes of Tales from the Crypt. He did not direct all of them but he did his fair share. Including my favorite episode of it's seven season run "And All Through the House". I am such a sucker for killer Santa's. Season one was the building block for a long and probably one of the most well known horror series in television history. Every episode has a new star to showcase and no episode was alike. Each episode was so well directed and edited thanks to the big budget they had to work with. And who can forget that handsome devil The Cryptkeeper who was voiced by John Kassir. To me every aspect about this show is unforgettable. I celebrate the entire collection and probably watch at least an episode or two on a weekly basis. Tales from the Darkside and Creepshow came first but to me no anthology will ever match the wit and sheer horror of Tales. Stay Twisted Everyone !
First Peek Inside Dark Cinema
Los Angeles, CA – After a successful shoot on Halloween day, The Dark Cinema – hosted by indie horror actor, Bill Oberst Jr (Take This Lollipop, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Dismal, Scary or Die) – is now in post-production. Producer Cheryl Compton and Director of Photography George J. Toland III expect to have the project edited and ready for prospective buyers by the first of the year.
The Dark Cinema is a half-hour anthology show featuring short horror/thriller/sci-fi films from around the globe. The pilot episode, which centers around the theme “Evil Toys” boasts award-winning shorts from the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and the United States.
“Bill did a wonderful job of channeling his inner Rod Sterling. I can't wait until everyone gets to see what a great host he is.” Compton continues, “The look and feel of the footage and photographs George captured is exactly what I envisioned when I came up with the concept for the show. We like to call it crushed velvet with a hint of visual mildew. George, along with set decorator Maureen McGuire, brought what was inside my head to life.”
The concept for the production set is very simple, explains Compton, “McGuire (who has worked on such films as Iron Man, Ocean’s Thirteen and Cast Away, just to name a select few) found the beautiful theater seats in a Los Angeles area prop house. They have just the right patina and scuffs to make the set look like a vintage movie house.”
The Dark Cinema will be releasing preview trailers very soon – not only in English, but, in keeping with the international flair of the show, also in Spanish and German.
Anyone who contributed to The Dark Cinema’s IndieGoGo crowd funding campaign at the appropriate level will receive this official photograph, autographed by Oberst, as part of their incentive package.

MGM to Remake The Town That Dreaded Sundown
It appears MGM is at it again. Fresh off the heels of the Carrie reboot, Variety is reporting that they are in the developing stages for a remake of The Town That Dreaded Sundown, a film based on several unsolved Texarkana murders in 1946 believed to be linked to the Phantom Killer.
According to Variety "MGM had no comment but the Lion has been asking agents for possible takes from writers to reboot the Charles B. Pierce film."
MGM has been focused on reboots since it emerged from bankruptcy in early 2011 with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum as co-CEOs. Upcoming projects include Hercules and The Magnificent Seven.
Bad news for some who are a fan of the original but good news for those that feel movies from this era can benefit from the advances in technology.
Scream Factory announced back in October that 'Sundown' would be getting a DVD/Blu-Ray release some time in 2013. Check out their Facebook page for more information and until then, enjoy the original trailer below.

AMCtv.com Interviews Steven Yeun
Steven Yeun, who plays Glenn on AMC's The Walking Dead, talks with AMCtv.com about post-apocalyptic romance and his expertise at being a hostage.
Q: Season 3 Episode 7, "When the Dead Come Knocking," is intense. Was this your first time ever being taken hostage?
A: You know, I'd been held hostage the first year, and then I was held hostage by my own people going down into the well last season! But this year, it was cool to show a little bit of mettle to Glenn, to see what he'd become.
Q: Do you feel like you're now trained to be able to escape from a similar strapped to a chair situation, if one ever arose?
A: It wasn't as difficult as it seemed, luckily. Turning over the chair on your back isn't easy, but standing up on it while being strapped to it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It was a blast. I hope I'd be as good. But if anyone is smart, they'd strap my legs to the chair as well.
Q: Do you have a favorite walker kill from this season?
A: Having the experience of choreographing that whole struggle of chair breaking and then coming alive and having to hit that walker in the head with a jagged chair was satisfying. That was awesome.
Q: The group gets to kill lots of walkers this season. Was it an actor's dream come true?
A: It was awesome. Trying to figure out new ways to kill these things is fun, as well as choreographing all that stuff. It's satisfying to kill one. People get into it. When we're filming and the responsibility comes to you to kill a walker and you're like, "Everybody trusts me to do this," it's a feeling that permeates from the character to the actor.
Q: Melissa McBride (Carol) talked about how the prison offered some comfort from the Georgia heat. Did that make it difficult to look like a survivor of a zombie apocalypse?
A: Being outside in the heat is always nice when you're trying to look miserable, but air conditioning is always good. You have to sit there and readjust to the surroundings, but somehow the set crew designed the inside of the prison to be just as disgusting as the outside. I don't know what they did, but it sucked in there too.
Q: In the moment when Glenn and Maggie get taken prisoner by Merle in Season 3 Episode 6, "Hounded," were you hoping they'd be able to get away?
A: I think they made a mistake in that moment and let their guard down. That's what happens when you have love in the apocalypse! The stakes aren't as high in the real world -- if you were to go shopping for baby formula, I don't think someone would come up to you and steal your girlfriend. But in that situation, it's almost terrible to have that attachment.

Q: Is Michael Rooker as frightening as he seems?
A: Michael Rooker is quite the character, he's in it. He's Merle. We just played it real. There's a lot of trust with us that's awesome. You just kind of have us play out something, and just film it. It's not such a grand process; it's just everyone's game and everyone's down to try something new and make it look good. It's a collaborative effort that goes surprisingly fast.
Q: Were there any sort of personal adjustments that you added to that scene?
A: Just kind of the whole feeling of what happens when you're pummeled. I tried to play up how painful it would be to get around when your ribs are almost broken, your face almost broken, and all. Also, I tried to incorporate what you do when you're in that much rage -- it was a whole process.
Q: Glenn and Maggie have a scene where they wake up in the guard tower. How'd you get up there?
A: They build out everything on the prison, it's crazy, but the only thing they didn't do was build steps up to the guard tower! So we had to take a crane up there, which was a fun experience.
Q: Glenn has emerged as one of the leaders of the group. Is this a situation you've ever been in yourself?
A: For me personally, the challenges of this season were about filling the holes left by the people that we lost. There are a lot of amazing actors that aren't there any more. As that happens, a little bit more responsibility is put on you in the weight you carry. So I feel like I've been dealt the same amount of responsibility on the show that Glenn has been dealt, and that growth has been almost one to one as each season has gone.
