31 Days of Horror Day 8: The Purge: Election Year 2016 - REVIEW

I haven't been the biggest fan of the Purge movies so far.  The first one while it was very intriguing and had an excellent plot was just really underwhelming.  I wasn't in any hurry to see Anarchy but finally did and wasn't expecting much.  I didn't get much so it all worked out.  Really could not believe they made a third one and the only thing I thought was this is really going to suck hard.  To my surprise it's probably one of my favorite movies of the year!

After the events that left her family dead, Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), is running for President mainly to put a stop to the annual Purge.  As you might be able to imagine there are a shit ton of people who are dead against her and want her dead, specifically the leaders of the nation who want no part of anything that will abolish the Purge.  It is lifted that government officials are exempt from the Purge paving the way for a night of assassination of the Senator.  After everyone protecting her except Leo (Frank Grillo) turns on her it is just those 2 out in the night and trying to stay safe till morning.

The third Purge they really went all out and produced a nice story line and just a action packed installment of a franchise that was frankly pretty weak.  If you do not like The Purge movies i urge you to at least give this one a chance.  Election year probably has some of the most likeable characters and best acting in the series in my humble opinion.  I will say that it is ultra violent so if you are squeamish at all this one is probably not for you.

It really is not hard for me to give this movie a rating because I loved it.  I would rate this 7 out of 10 stars.  If they could make another one like this I would say green light another sequel and see what happens.  Would be a great addition for this Halloween season to sit back and enjoy.  Stay twisted everyone!
