True Horror

I was in the middle of finishing up a review when news from Connecticut slapped this nation in the face. That review seems insignificant now as we listen to the updates that continue to pour in. At this time, there are reportedly 26 people dead, among them 18 students and 8 staff members of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut.

Are you curious yet as to why I've taken the time to write this? Well I'll tell you... all the horror films in the world could never compare to what one human is capable of doing to another. Take a look out your front door, that's where true horror happens. It's all around us every day. Yes, we go on about our lives and do the things we must but it's out there lurking, somewhere. We see it on the news, we hear it on the radio, hell sometimes we even experience it ourselves. But the truth is, no writer or director could ever create a monster as evil and cruel as what reality holds for some of us.

As a nation, we've become desensitized to the violence. No one ever thinks something like this could happen to them when in reality, it only takes one sick individual to change a lot of lives forever. I can't imagine the anguish these families must be going through. Nothing will ever heal these people and no words will ever make it better but our thoughts and sympathies go out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

UPDATE: 12/14/2012 2:53 PM Reports are coming in now that among the dead are 20 students and 6 staff members. Please continue to keep these families in your thoughts.
