New Artwork Released for The Divine Tragedies

Los Angeles, California – Brothers Jon and James Kondelik are moving closer to the final reveal of their serial killer thriller The Divine Tragedies. This film has already completed production, with several new and older horror veterans attached. Based on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case, Dual Visions presents a new poster for the film here.
The Divine Tragedies is a film which takes its story from truth. Leopold and Loeb were two intellectuals, who thought they could get away with the perfect murder, in 1924’s Chicago. In Jose Prendes’ vision, the two killers are brothers. Set in the modern era, Charles Brubaker (Graham Denman) and Thomas Lo Bianco (Jon Kondelik) believe they are above the law and they kill without mercy. Their murders become more and more gruesome, until Detective Homer (Ken Foree) is able to intervene. But, Homer is only a few steps away from his own tragedy.

Early reviews have been favourable for the film. Josh Soriano of the horror website Icons of Fright noted the film’s many influences: “like the word of Palahniuk through the eyes of David Lynch…an uncompromising and original horror.” The Divine Tragedies is surreal in scope as imagined by director Prendes. As well, Matt (Boiselle) enjoyed the film’s darker tones: “ferocious. This tragedy is simply divine, one of the better films I’ve personally dropped eyeballs on in some time.” Both of these quotes are featured in the film’s latest artwork. You can feast your eyes on the bloody graphic here.

Director: Jose Prendes.
Producers: Jon and James Kondelik.
Cast: Lynn Lowry, Ken Foree, Sean Whalen, Graham Denman and Jon Kondelik.

The Hunted 2013 - REVIEW

If you look up films that are comprised of the "found footage" and "based on a true story" premise, you'll most likely find a very long list of ones that I dislike the most. The last time I enjoyed one was in 1999 when The Blair Witch Project was released. It was a creepy, cool, new thing but flash forward 15 years and both of those concepts are way over played.

The Hunted centers around Jake (Josh Stewart) and Stevie (Ronnie Gene Blevins), two hunters out to shoot the pilot of their new hunting show. Dragging camera equipment along with them they set out into the dense woods of West Virginia in search of a massive buck named "Movie Star". Things are looking favorable until they start hearing screams coming from the darkness. After hearing it a couple of nights in a row, Jake insists that it's the scream of a bobcat but Stevie isn't convinced and goes in search of answers. During his talks with the locals, he discovers that Movie Star isn't the only thing haunting the woods but there is also the malevolent spirit of a vengeful ghost that roams in the darkness.

Stewart, first time writer and director of the film, managed to create very strong and likable characters whose dramatically different personalities enhanced both the tense and funny moments throughout the film; and the duo does an outstanding job playing off one another. What I enjoyed most about it was how both main characters propelled the story forward but in different ways. Jake's goal was getting the footage for the pilot while Stevie led the film into the supernatural direction by coaxing folklore out of the locals.

Nowadays, it's hard not to compare films from this sub genre to others. Films like Paranormal Activity and Quarantine have made it almost impossible to appreciate something as subtle and suggestive as say, The Blair Witch Project. But much like it's predecessor, The Hunted is a slow build until the final act when all bets are off.

The Hunted, however, is not without it's hiccups. The main issue I had was with the antagonist. It's hard for an audience to connect with a situation when they don't know what they're suppose to be afraid of. Viewers will know that something is out there but it's mostly subjective... like Pontypool. You get a sense of what's going on and that it's pretty bad but the rest is left up to the imagination. That doesn't necessarily lessen the value of the film though. Some people just aren't as imaginative as others and likely won't get it. At least not until the final act where it turns into a crazy, intense nail biter that's guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Stewart has clearly learned the ins and outs of filmmaking during his many years as an actor and I applaud his efforts to branch out into other areas. While not a perfect film, The Hunted is leaps and bounds better than most I've seen and definitely worth a watch. Word to the wise, watch out for that Stewart gaze. Those dreamy eyes can make it a bit hard to concentrate, or maybe it's just me. Either way, this is a film I would've loved to have to added to the Twisted Tails Film Festival line up had I known about it in time.

The Hunted is available for download on Amazon and iTunes and on DVD at Walmart.

J.R.'s Top 5 list of Horror Movies for 1987

The late 80's hold a special place for me because it was when I started watching horror movies.  I may have only been 7 or 8 but I knew what was a good movie.  1987 looking at the list of horror movies released, I am finding it really hard to pick just 5.  Love the picks or hate them, this is my top 5 of 1987.

The Prom Night sequels are guilty pleasures of mine.  Prom Night II is so much fun you can't help but  have a blast watching it.  True it does not have anything to do with the original and does not star Jamie Lee Curtis but it is a great watch and I highly recommend it!

The follow up to the anthology horror success of Stephen King and George Romero is my number 4.  I could watch this movie probably once a week and never get tired of it.  It has just the right mixture of cheese and just good horor.  There are only 3 stories on this one opposed to the original that had 5 but it does not lack in quality.

This great film I really did not see till much later.  Mainly because the movie poster and the previews freaked me out when I was little and I was too terrified to see it.  I am a sucker for killer doll movies like this and Puppetmaster.  Guy Rolfe is such a great actor too.  His performance is one of the reasons I love this movie.

I am not a huge fan of vampire movies but this is one of best in my opinion.  Packed with a cast of young and virtually unknown actors at the time makes this movie so enjoyable.  I have to mention also that Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander will be appearing at the Twisted Tails Film Festival hosted by Twisted Central.

This film has to be my number 1 for 1987.  Not only is it the best out of the franchise in my opinion but it is also the first horror movie that I ever watched.  This movie started it all for me.  It totally scared the shit out of me at that age but I still loved it and Freddy Krueger.

Joshua Werner’s Rampant Tells the Origin of Werewolves

Everything you thought you knew about werewolves is about to change...

Source Point Press has announced they will be publishing the horror novella "Rampant" by Joshua Werner, scheduled to be released in early September. Werner’s werewolf tale will kick off the beginning of Source Point’s fall releases of creator-owned books and comics, and an anthology of werewolf stories, poems, and artwork will be released soon after.

Joshua Werner is the author of The Brutality of Fact and Adoration for the Dead, as well as such popular short stories as Osiris and The Invention. After taking a hiatus to focus on his illustration work, Werner returns to the writing arena with Rampant. Set in the 18th Century Swiss Confederacy, Rampant tells the tale of a young man who stumbles upon a family’s terrible secret that will change his life forever, and will reveal lycanthropy’s true origins. “It’s a very ambitious story,” says the author, “and it dives deep into the roots of the werewolf curse, offering a brand new origin to the folklore that’s deeply embedded in our real history.”

Writer and literary critic Kasey Pierce (KosmicKasey.com) spoke enthusiastically of the book in the foreword she wrote for Rampant. “Joshua Werner’s tale of tragedy, heartbreak, and bloodlust is an
outstanding homage to the Gothic era of horror,” she said. “His literary descriptions created a realm that devoured my senses and left me hungry for more.”

“While this story is most definitely a werewolf tale, fans of classic horror will be interested to learn that Rampant also ties in seamlessly with Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein,” says author Joshua
Werner. “The story takes place in a small village that lies between two of the primary locations in Frankenstein, Geneva and Ingolstadt, and takes place during the same time.” Fans of Mary Shelley’s classic can expect to find multiple nods to her tale in Rampant, “and perhaps more,” says Werner.

Accompanying the story are multiple illustrations drawn by the author, done in a style similar to woodcuts of the time period, as well as a map of the village highlighting locations pertinent to the narrative. There are also two afterwords by Werner; one discussing the story’s connection to Frankenstein and another that separates the facts and real history within the story from the fiction.

The book will be available for sale on Amazon, Storenvy, and other online retailers first, followed by select stores shortly after, and the first signing will take place at Grand-Con in Grand Rapids, MI
Sept. 19th. More information can be found at www.SourcePointPress.comwww.twitter.com/SourcePtPress, and www.facebook.com/SourcePointPress.

The online premiere represents a brand-new director's cut of the film, including an all-new opening sequence and a blood-curdling alternate ending.

"We are artists and thinkers, not really business folk," writer-director Jason Torrey elaborates. "We wanted to make a kick ass, original slasher movie, the kind we would like to watch ourselves. For us, it's just about giving people the opportunity to see it. What better way than through free services like Vimeo and YouTube?"

In Blood Was Everywhere, a killer wreaks havoc on the lives of average people in a small Massachusetts town. Inspired by the classic slashers of the late ’70s and early ’80s, the film offers a chilling concoction of horror, thriller, mystery and character study.

Blood Was Everywhere's cast includes Paul Kratka (Friday the 13th Part III), Larry Holden (Batman Begins), Vanessa Leigh (Almost Human), Sean Sullivan (Murder University) and a number of upcoming actors, including Ashley Arnold, Kimberly Simone, Phil Ristaino, John Westcott and Dita Prenn.

Creeping Crawling Coming to DVD and VOD October 7

On October 7th, Brain Damage Films will release Creeping Crawling, an entomophobia-inducing horror anthology featuring three tales sure to make viewers bug out. DVD availability is set to include many retailers and websites including Amazon, as well as rental chains including Family Video. VOD availability will include all major and minor cable/satellite operators and internet platforms.

About the Film
Creeping Crawling is the work of writer/director Jon Russell Cring's CINEMA REBELLION along with writers Joshua Owens and Tracy Nichole Cring. The film features three creepy crawly tales starring exotic insects, arachnids, parasites, and reptiles -- Oh, and scream queen RAINE BROWN (Torture Chamber, Deer Crossing), America's Next Top Model contestant LAURA LAFRATE, Anna Shields (Little Bi Peep), and more, as well as music by Super 400, Bear Campo, and Absolute Zero.

The film took home a Best Feature award at the 2013 JamFest Indie Film Festival and the RID segment took Best Screenplay at the 2012 Atlanta Horror Film Festival -- But if you don't trust awards it has reviews to back it up, like (re)Search My Trash's Mike Haberfelner, who says the movie "gives new, amusing but also fittingly macabre twists and turns to stories that might sound familiar. And add to that a very competent ensemble cast, a directorial effort that knows when to hold back, when less is more, and a light-footed note to the whole thing, and you've got a pretty entertaining piece of genre entertainment."

Synopsis
You live with them, you feed them, you fear them. Creeping Crawling is an anthology featuring three tales of terror centered around things that go slither in the night. Doug and Allison have a paper due and they're hoping an eccentric entomologist will be the lynch pin to a passing grade.

They get more than they bargained for when Dr. Tarkovsky tells them the story of GRUBBERY and the lengths supermodel Denver will go to in order to keep her figure. Denver's best friend Ginger introduces her to age old dieting wisdom as her boyfriend Rick witnesses her eaten away by her own vanity.

RID introduces Dori, a beautiful young girl who desperately needs money and poses as a nurse hired to take care of a comatose patient. While staying in the Gothic mansion, she begins to unravel as something feasts upon her while she sleeps.
Dr. Tarkovsky's final cautionary tale centers around Bailey. In BUGGER, the lonely man navigates love online. He can't seem to find a woman who shares his six legged obsessions. A co-worker has her doubts about his motives, as a serial killer is at large.

All Hallows Eve 2013 - REVIEW

I have heard some really great things about this film so I thought I would give it a watch because it was fairly inexpensive.  I knew it was anthology horror but what I did not know was it is also a found footage movie, ugh!  I'm not a huge fan of found footage.  There are a few that are ok but it is a fad in movies that is getting overused and I'm just not a fan.  On the other hand I bought it so I may ad well watch it.  I mean a creepy clown is on the cover.

Sarah (Katie Mcguire) is babysitting 2 adolescent brats and one of them gets a vhs tape in his trick or treat bag.  They put it in and it turns out to be 3 stories of horror all revolving around a psychotic murderous clown.  Sarah puts the kids to bed after the first story because of how brutal it is but she continues to watch the tape.  She does not realize what she is in for.  A night of terror like she has never seen before.

So I was pretty surprised by the movie being found footage.  Having said that I have to say I did not totally hate it.  It really wasn't as good as I had anticipated but it still was a pretty creepy little piece.  The acting was nothing special really.  The kids are mediocre at best and the main character played by Katie Mcguire in the wrap around story is pretty mediocre as well.  I am really just on the fence on how much I actually like this film.  I may have to watch this one a few times to determine that.

The 3 stories on the vhs are ok.  It actually is pretty scary and I can definitely see someone loving this movie just for the fact that it actually scares them.  I am a huge sucker for anthology horror so no matter if its found footage I am going to watch all of them.  It is a Halloween themed movie so I can definitely suggest to pick this one up and you got yourself a decent scary movie to watch on Halloween night.  I would give this one 5 out of 5 stars.  Stay twisted everyone!
